Get to Know Me

Welcome! Therapy can be incredibly powerful and fulfilling; however, it can also be difficult to get started or find the right match between patient and therapist. By providing information about my experience and style, I hope to make it a little easier to take the leap and reach out.

I practice therapy from a psychodynamic framework. This means that I emphasize building insight into the roots of emotional suffering and the patterns that impede our ability to lead more satisfying lives. While my approach is rooted in psychodynamic theory, I incorporate interventions from a variety of modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and mindfulness-based interventions with the aim of adapting to each patient's evolving needs.

I have years of experience working with a diverse adult population in a variety of settings including a psychiatric hospital, community mental health clinics, university counseling centers and a private mental health company. During my career, I have developed a specialization in disordered eating and body image concerns. However, I also practice as a generalist and have significant experience working with individuals contending with anxiety, depression, life transitions, grief, relationship concerns, low self-esteem, and trauma.

While therapy looks different with every patient, my style is non-directive and flexible. As such, I tend to follow the patient’s lead, asking questions and guiding discussions as various themes and issues arise.  I often use my understanding of the therapeutic relationship to challenge negative self-talk and build insight into interpersonal patterns as they occur moment to moment during the session.

Outside of the therapy room, I enjoy hiking, practicing yoga, snuggling with my two cats and getting lost in a great series or book.
